Recipe: Delicious Doughnuts

Yesterday I made some delicious doughnuts! Everyone loves doughnuts, right? No sorry, my little sister doesn’t like them. Yeah, I was in shock too. But now there were more for me, so I can’t complain. It’s a well-known recipe here, called ‘Mama Donuts’. It’s from Ms. Belgh.


  • 400 ml lukewarm milk (400 ml lauwe melk)
  • 3 eggs (3 eieren)
  • 2 packets of vanilla sugar – 2x 8 gram – (2 pakjes vanillesuiker)*
  • 1 packet of baking powder – 16 gram – (1 pakje bakpoeder)
  • 1 cube fresh yeast – 42 gram – or 1 <sup>1/2</sup>  packet dry yeast  – 10 gram – (1 blokje verse gist óf 10 gram droge gist)
  • 2 big tbsp butter (2 grote el boter)
  • 1 kilo flour (1 kilo meel)

Throwback: Vietnam

WIN_20140606_085307 (2)In June 2014 I got the opportunity to visit a leprosy village, Quy Hoa, in Vietnam. For those who have never heard of leprosy: it is a chronic infection caused by a bacteria.It causes disfiguring skin sores and nerve damage in the arms and legs. There are people living in the village who have been cured. Some are married and have children. Some are old and live in an elderly home. There is a hospital in the village where the sick are being treated.
